We at Lakonía Family have been testing and testing and testing some more, to come up with a hybrid recipe that will make your ribs fall off the bone and leave your guests speechless in delight!

Great depth of flavor and complex aromas for a unique and bold taste. It has a great balance of smokey, sweet, and savory flavors.  Highly recommended!

The perfect balance of sweet and spicy, perfect for any barbecue, this rib rub is awesome.

It’s made using a “secret” blend of three different flavoring techniques and sets of ingredients, which we like to refer to as the “secret building blocks” each one offering its unique characteristic that contributes to the final result.

Secret Block 1

The Seasoning effect

The Greek Herbs and Spices Mix is considered by many to be a seasoning product but it is much more than that.

This taste intensifier made of herbs and spices endemic to the Greek flora is a garden of Mediterranean flavor gems that you can think of like a swiss knife in your cooking toolbox.

It is one of the key ingredients for this rub.

Secret Block 2

The Sole ingredients

These are the main ingredients that you’ll find in almost every rib rub recipe.

Brown sugar Pork and sweet were just made to go together but brown sugar is what we like to use as a base in most of our rubs.

Cinamon is what will make you crave for one more and never feel you had too much. Cinamon has the capacity to clear your mouth in a way that every bite tastes as fresh and new as the first one.

Celery Salt The ultimate ingredient to balance the sweetness of sugar. The perfect rub is all about keeping the right balance!

Secret Block 3

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Cooking with olive oil is an art that can drive your cooking to a whole new level and Greeks have developed the know-how of doing so since antiquity.

This is a key ingredient for the complete rub.

Combine the “secret blocks” in 2 simple steps

Step 1

Massage the ribs with olive oil, a teaspoon of herbs and spices mix, and salt.

The salt will help keep the ribs humidity inside, while the olive oil will provide a fine coat for the rub to rest upon.

The herbs and spices flavors will interact with olive oil and as heat develops they will spread their smell and taste characteristics across all directions.

Step 2

Blend the brown sugar with 1-2 tablespoons of cinnamon and celery salt.

This will provide the concrete base of the final rub.

Finally, rub the oil moistured ribs with the rub, cover with tin foil and let rest for as long as possible (15min minimum).

Now that you know what each block does in each step, it is time to use your cooking perception and creativity to adjust your preferences by adjusting the number of ingredients used and adding your personal touch.

Coriander, cumin, smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, chili powder, mustard powder, ginger, red pepper grind, the list is endless.

Once you have the right base you can make the perfect rub yours totally, just by being generous with all ingredients you like the most!

Conclusion

This rub is a great starting point for ribs because it has a lot of flavors but doesn’t overpower the meat.

We can think of no other rub base that can be used on all kinds of cuts, just like a seasoned professional chef would then this one.

We use this rib rub often as it mixes the techniques of seasoning, rubbing, and marinating; it never fails to make a delicious showing.

Our guests are always impressed by the flavor. A must-try!

This is why we are excited to share it with our friends and family! 🙂

💡Expert’s Bonus Tip: Mustard is good for butts but when comes to ribs, it tends to make a gooey mess. Save it for your hot dogs 🙂
